Staff Accountant
Position Overview: Our client is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the accounting team by preparing and analyzing financial schedules, performing general accounting functions, and managing full-cycle accounts payable. This role is responsible for supporting the month-end close process, preparing sales tax filings, reconciling accounts, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Reporting

Prepare and file state sales tax returns and respond to customer sales tax inquiries

Coordinate business licensing and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements

Support external financial and tax audits by preparing required schedules and documentation
Financial Analysis & Account Reconciliation

Prepare and analyze financial schedules and supporting documentation

Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies

Verify and reconcile corporate credit card transactions

Identify and resolve accounting issues to ensure accurate financial reporting
Month-End Close & General Accounting

Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations

Maintain fixed asset records and support accurate asset tracking

Support cash management activities, including ACH and wire payment processing

Ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly financial reporting
Financial Data Management & Reporting

Maintain and update financial spreadsheets and large data sets using Microsoft Excel

Prepare supplemental financial reports and analyses for management
-
Support continuous improvement of reporting processes and financial data accuracy

Collaborate with internal departments to improve workflows and reporting efficiency
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent accounting experience

5–7 years of accounting experience in a similar role

CPA preferred but not required

Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, and complex formulas

Experience with ERP systems; NetSuite experience preferred

Familiarity with Avalara, Sovos, or similar sales tax software is a plus

Knowledge of state sales tax regulations and filing requirements

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines with exceptional attention to detail
