Staff Accountant

Position Overview: Our client is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the accounting team by preparing and analyzing financial schedules, performing general accounting functions, and managing full-cycle accounts payable. This role is responsible for supporting the month-end close process, preparing sales tax filings, reconciling accounts, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
 
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Reporting
  • Prepare and file state sales tax returns and respond to customer sales tax inquiries
  • Coordinate business licensing and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Support external financial and tax audits by preparing required schedules and documentation
Financial Analysis & Account Reconciliation
  • Prepare and analyze financial schedules and supporting documentation
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies
  • Verify and reconcile corporate credit card transactions
  • Identify and resolve accounting issues to ensure accurate financial reporting
Month-End Close & General Accounting
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Maintain fixed asset records and support accurate asset tracking
  • Support cash management activities, including ACH and wire payment processing
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly financial reporting
Financial Data Management & Reporting
  • Maintain and update financial spreadsheets and large data sets using Microsoft Excel
  • Prepare supplemental financial reports and analyses for management
  • Support continuous improvement of reporting processes and financial data accuracy
  • Collaborate with internal departments to improve workflows and reporting efficiency
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent accounting experience
  • 5–7 years of accounting experience in a similar role
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUPs, and complex formulas
  • Experience with ERP systems; NetSuite experience preferred
  • Familiarity with Avalara, Sovos, or similar sales tax software is a plus
  • Knowledge of state sales tax regulations and filing requirements
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines with exceptional attention to detail
