Senior Auditor

Job Summary: The Senior Auditor performs and leads a variety of financial and operational audits to assess the adequacy, effectiveness, and efficiency of internal controls and processes. This role involves planning and overseeing audit engagements, preparing and reviewing workpapers and reports, and mentoring audit staff. The position supports a collaborative, growth-oriented team environment and encourages ongoing professional development and certification.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead external financial statement audits and internal operational audits/reviews.
  • Develop risk assessments and audit programs to determine audit scope and priorities.
  • Oversee and perform audit procedures to evaluate compliance with GAAP, internal policies, donor restrictions, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and finalize audit workpapers prepared by audit staff; ensure documentation supports audit conclusions and complies with professional standards.
  • Draft financial statements and lead the preparation of written and oral reports summarizing audit findings and recommendations.
  • Monitor the status of audit recommendations and conduct follow-up procedures to evaluate the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Communicate audit issues and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders in a clear, professional, and constructive manner.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA license strongly preferred; must meet the educational requirements to sit for the CPA Exam.
  • Commitment to continued professional development; additional certifications such as CIA or CFE are a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of auditing or accounting experience, preferably including experience in nonprofit organizations.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and GAAS.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with audit software (e.g., Caseware Working Papers, IDEA) is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
