Senior Accountant

Position Summary: The Senior Accountant supports core accounting and financial reporting activities within a multi-location distribution organization, including general ledger maintenance, complex financial analysis, and month-end close. This role is ideal for an experienced, detail-oriented professional who leads through collaboration, ensures compliance with GAAP, and manages deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in maintaining financial integrity and driving process improvements across the organization.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, review, and post complex journal entries (including accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, amortization, and allocations)
  • Lead and assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes across multiple entities and locations
  • Reconcile and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts, researching and resolving variances
  • Support the preparation of internal financial statements, operational reporting, and variance analysis to inform strategic decisions
  • Oversee billing accuracy, revenue recognition, and related account reconciliation efforts
  • Process and review intercompany transactions ensuring compliance and accuracy
  • Ensure strict adherence to GAAP, internal controls, and company policies
  • Coordinate and respond to internal and external audit requests, providing necessary documentation and explanations
  • Assist with ERP system management, system enhancements, and process improvements to optimize financial workflows
  • Perform ad hoc analyses and contribute to special projects to support organizational goals
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting principles
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
  • ERP system experience, preferably JD Edwards
  • Business intelligence or reporting tool experience a plus (Power BI preferred)
  • Proven ability to lead complex reconciliations, analyses, and process improvements
  • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, with a collaborative approach to teamwork
