Project Accountant

Position Overview: The Project Accountant supports project teams by managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and job cost reporting throughout the project lifecycle. This role ensures accurate invoice processing, contract compliance, and timely financial reporting while serving as a key resource to project managers, subcontractors, and vendors. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize in a deadline-driven environment are essential.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Process and code vendor invoices; route for approval and enter into the accounting system
  • Review vendor statements, resolve discrepancies, and respond to payment inquiries
  • Maintain subcontractor records, W-9 documentation, and support 1099 preparation
  • Monitor subcontractor billings to ensure compliance with contractual limits and approved change orders
  • Proactively request and track invoices from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Prepare and distribute customer invoices, including required supporting documentation
  • Process invoices through electronic billing platforms as required
  • Generate accounts receivable aging reports and support collections efforts
  • Assist with contract and subcontract documentation, purchase orders, and insurance program requirements
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities for AP and AR
  • Maintain organized financial records to ensure audit readiness and compliance
  • Assist with reconciliations, reporting, and special projects as needed
 
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience required; pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments
  • Working knowledge of job cost accounting systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and Google Sheets
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., ComputerEase or similar ERP systems) preferred
