HR Generalist

Position Summary: The HR Generalist is responsible for processing accurate, timely payroll while providing comprehensive human resources support throughout the employee lifecycle. This role partners closely with HR leadership to ensure compliance with employment laws, company policies, and collective bargaining agreements while supporting both union and non-union employees. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and committed to delivering exceptional customer service.
 
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
  • Process weekly, bi-weekly, and semi-monthly payroll using ADP Workforce Now or a similar platform.
  • Maintain employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, pay changes, deductions, garnishments, and direct deposits.
  • Audit payroll for accuracy and compliance with company policies, wage and hour laws, and union agreements.
  • Process payroll adjustments, bonuses, commissions, overtime, and other earnings.
  • Coordinate payroll tax reporting and ensure timely tax remittance.
  • Manage PTO, leave balances, and attendance data related to payroll.
  • Reconcile payroll reports and assist with month-end, year-end, and W-2 processing.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries, resolve discrepancies, and partner with Finance on payroll reporting and general ledger reconciliations.
Human Resources Administration
  • Support onboarding, offboarding, recruitment coordination, and background checks.
  • Maintain HRIS and personnel records with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Administer employee benefits, leave programs, and open enrollment activities.
  • Assist with performance management, employee development, HR reporting, and policy administration.
Employee Relations & Compliance
  • Support administration of collective bargaining agreements and assist with payroll-related union matters.
  • Help gather documentation for grievances and ensure consistent application of company policies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, payroll regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits while maintaining the confidentiality of employee information.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3–5 years of Human Resources experience with at least 3 years of hands-on payroll administration using ADP.
  • Experience supporting both union and non-union employees; collective bargaining experience preferred.
  • Manufacturing, distribution, logistics, or industrial experience preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of ADP Workforce Now or similar payroll systems.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, employment laws, and HR best practices.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain strict confidentiality.
