Cost Accountant

Position Summary: The Cost Accountant is responsible for preparing general ledger journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, compiling information for audits, and supporting overall accounting functions. This role oversees activities related to product costing, manufacturing analysis, and inventory valuation. The ideal candidate will also assist accounting clerks as needed and leverage ERP system knowledge to troubleshoot and recommend corrective actions.
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Analyze financial results and provide insights.
  • Prepare general ledger journal entries and allocations for monthly financial reporting.
  • Assist accounting clerks with daily activities as needed.
  • Maintain and update cost records for raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods.
  • Prepare and analyze annual cost rolls and cost changes.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure accuracy of cost data.
  • Maintain and improve internal processes and controls related to manufacturing costs and inventory valuation.
  • Analyze slow-moving and obsolete inventory and provide recommendations.
  • Support inventory reduction initiatives.
  • Oversee cycle count audits and coordinate with external auditors.
  • Process return material authorizations (RMAs).
  • Provide cross-functional accounting support as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent field preferred.
  • 3 - 5 years of cost accounting experience preferred.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective time management and organization.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with office equipment and accounting systems; experience with IFS preferred.
