Senior Accountant (8366)

Overview
This role manages full-cycle accounting for construction projects, including contract review, job setup, billing, accounts payable and receivable oversight, payroll recording, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, job cost analysis, tax compliance, and financial reporting. The position collaborates closely with Project Managers and leadership to ensure accurate and timely financial management.

Responsibilities
  • Review contracts to ensure jobs are properly set up in the accounting system and billing requirements are met.
  • Provide oversight for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Review job progress monthly with Project Managers; obtain billing information and prepare monthly progress billings per customer requirements.
  • Verify job cost schedules for accuracy and maintain proper job accounting records.
  • Review subcontractor agreements for compliance with lien waivers and insurance requirements; monitor vendor accounts for timely payments and resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor receivables and follow up with customers on payment status; communicate collection issues to leadership.
  • Maintain monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Review payroll for accuracy and ensure compliance with prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting.
  • Maintain prepaids and other balance sheet reconciliations monthly.
  • Record job cost reclassifications as needed following analysis of job cost reports and transactions.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly job cost reports to identify variances and trends; provide recommendations for cost control and profitability improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal tax regulations, including sales/use and payroll tax filings; assist with annual 1099 preparation and filing.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum five years of construction and/or cost accounting experience preferred.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (MS Word, MS Outlook).
